“It’s too low level”

Calle Halfvarsson has the plan ready after his cross-country skiing career. He wants to become an expert commentator on television.
– I would create a better atmosphere and competence in the sport. The level could go up, he says.

Calle Halfvarsson35, plans to retire after the World Ski Championships in Falun in 2027. At the same arena where he made his World Cup debut in 2009.

After that, he wants to work in television.
– After my career, I would be a good fit as a television commentator or expert commentator, says Halvarsson, who has views on how the ski races are commented on on television:
– You see technical stuff and can explain to the viewers what happens during the race. Sometimes it is too low level.

Halfvarsson would not hesitate to criticize old skiing colleagues:
– I dare, but I wouldn’t say anything to be nasty, but explain what the rider needs to work on, technique and tactical choices. I would say things in good faith and not offend anyone.

SVT’s Jacob Hard and Anders Blomquist are his TV favorites in skiing.
– You still get the best skiing feeling from listening to them. They are the most comfortable to listen to, says Halfvarsson.

Chris Harenstam (SVT), Glenn Stromberg (SVT/Viaplay) and Jonas Karlsson (Discovery) are three other favorites.
– The voice is important. It may be horrible to say it, but some people don’t have the comfortable voice to listen to. It doesn’t matter how knowledgeable they are if they’re hard to listen to.

Have you received an offer to become a TV commentator?
– No, it would be strange if they ask me while I’m still active.
