“It’s too late for everything”

Even a year and a half after the release of Battlefield 2042, the community’s criticism of the developers does not stop. Now the studio is turning to the players with clear words – and is reaping hatred again.

What is criticized? Shooter fans have high hopes for the new Battlefield title in 2021. However, it didn’t get off to an ideal start and the shooter was criticized. There were numerous bugs, the weapons were unbalanced, the helicopters were absolutely annoying and other vehicles were also way too powerful. All of this is still criticized today. In addition, the servers seem empty and there are said to be many hackers (via Steam).

New content and discounts each gave a small boost in between, but the overall positive ratings on Steam remain at just 38% overall.

How are the developers reacting? In a May 12 tweet, the developer studio’s social media team addressed the community. They write there that lately they have been increasingly hated. The Battlefield 2042 development studios are open to constructive feedback and criticism.

In order to maintain a healthy and open dialogue with the community, the team must be protected from toxic messages. This has no place in the game and within the Battlefield community. At the end, they link to the community guidelines. They want to take the necessary measures to achieve compliance.

The fight against toxicity backfires

The community’s reaction to this is anything but sympathetic: “It’s all too late. The game was a disappointing experience for me, longer than I could stand. The most important lesson I learned from Battlefield 2042 is that you shouldn’t pre-order,” wrote one user under the tweet.

Other users are demanding to stop releasing unfinished games. Updates that come months or years later would not change anything. Some users write that the “legitimate criticism” is not hate. There has been “no apologies to the players” since launch.

But there is also positive feedback to the developer studio: A few users note that they’re having a lot of fun with Battlefield 2042 now. Some express sympathy. “I feel sorry for you that you have to deal with mean people. Thank you for your hard work and communicating with us,” one user wrote.

If you look at the latest Steam reviews, you can see that the positive opinions are now at least 63%. The developers’ plans could ensure a further increase, because they want to start in a tried and tested area.
