After only one season, this original and critically acclaimed series, put online barely a month ago, has already been canceled by Netflix.
This is a bad situation that many Netflix subscribers have found themselves in. If certain programs on the streaming platform do not attract enough audiences quickly, or if they are too original compared to algorithm predictions, they can be unceremoniously canceled. After the ambitious 1899, The O.A.or the entertaining Lockwood & co Or Dead Boy Detectivesanother series has just been canceled by Netflix very discreetly.
Particularity of this cancellation: the first season of the series was released only a month ago, and had been widely acclaimed by critics, while the public who had started watching said they were won over by the program. It must be said that this program created by Charlie Covell was far from Netflix standards: the eight-episode series reinvented Greek mythology by transposing it into our modern society.
KAOS describes the discord raging on Mount Olympus with Zeus (Jeff Goldblum) in full paranoia, while mortals are the subject of a mysterious prophecy and could hold the future of humanity in their hands. Cynicism and black humor were on the program for this offbeat series, sufficiently original compared to other Netflix productions. The critics were won over, with the Guardian even calling the program a “masterpiece”.
But obviously, the public was not sufficiently there and KAOS was canceled after just a month (the episodes were posted online on August 29). On social networks, fans of the series did not take off: “it’s shameful”, comments a user of -ear can be very powerful”. “Give programs time to find their audiences,” demands another.
“It’s rubbish,” reacts another subscriber upon learning of the cancellation of the series, believing that the platform “does a disservice to its subscribers and to television by ordering ambitious and original series only to delete them without giving them the time to live.” Some are offended, saying that it is “one of the best series seen in a long time”, while other subscribers say they are tired of seeing an ambitious new series being canceled in just a few weeks. One subscriber is even more radical: “The cup is full, that was all it took for me to cancel my subscription”.
