It’s an overcast Sept. 26 on Lambton Line and Day 30 of the pepper harvest in Lambton and Kent counties. On those two wagons in the photo are just 12,000 pounds of the millions of pounds of banana peppers that will be harvested by Serka Farms Inc. of Wallaceburg. Kurtis Allaer is a fourth-generation Ontario farmer and farm manager for Serkkhas Farms. He says within 24 hours of picking, those peppers will be on a truck to Saginaw and Croswell, Mich., where they will be pickled and then distributed to sandwich shops, pizza places, burger restaurants and grocery stores – like Subway, Mr. Sub , Harvey’s, Chivs-fil-A and Domino’s – across Canada and the US
