Its one of the best novels of all time its

Regularly listed as one of the best novels ever written, this literary classic is being adapted into a series for Netflix.

Literature is an almost inexhaustible source of stories to adapt into films or series for the film or television industry. And the streaming platforms have logically gotten into it, with The Bridgertons Chronicle, Sherlock, Outlander, American God, Good Omens, all of which were literary successes before becoming television UFOs. And the trend is far from downward. The proof: Netflix is releasing a new fiction which retransposes in a few episodes one of the greatest novels ever written.

It is one of the immense classics of Spanish-speaking and world literature. It thus appears in the list of the 100 best books of all time, established by the Norwegian Book Circle in 2002, when it is not regularly cited as one of the greatest novels of the 20th century. Its author also received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982. This work is obviously A hundred years of solitude.

This work by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, published in 1967, follows the history of the Buendía family over several generations. The plot begins with the arranged marriage between two cousins, who end up founding the utopian town of Macondo, and their lineage will leave a lasting mark on this small isolated town. War, impossible loves, madness, so many torments will condemn this cursed lineage to a hundred years of solitude.

Gabriel Garcia Marquez died in 2014, but his work, which deals with existential themes while redefining literature with the so-called “magical realism” movement, still remains a major work today, translated into more than 40 languages and sold to more than 50 million copies.

It is therefore no surprise that Netflix decided to adapt A hundred years of solitude in a Colombian and Spanish-speaking series. The first episodes, each lasting approximately one hour, are posted online on the streaming platform on December 11, 2024.
