This sweet and comforting series is ideal for binge-watching during the fall: it returns this week on Netflix for a new season.
As autumn sets in and the temperatures slowly drop, you probably need a good series of cuddly toys in front of which you can curl up in a blanket and forget about the worries of the day. Look no further, Netflix is releasing the new season of one of these series online this week. Sweet and comforting, this is one of the programs not to be missed this week.
Adapted from the British graphic novel of the same name, created by Alice Oseman, Heartstopper is a series broadcast on Netflix since 2022. This romantic drama follows two teenagers, Charlie and Nick, who meet at an English grammar school. One is an introverted, openly homosexual artist, the other a popular rugby player at school who everyone (including him) assumes is straight. Initially friends, the two high school students become closer, leading Nick to question his sexual orientation. Around them gravitate other adolescents prey to their own questions of love or identity.
Heartstopper is the comforting series par excellence: caring and tolerant, it draws endearing characters in a sensitive and moving way, without forgetting to delicately paint the first romantic emotions of adolescence with which everyone can identify. Appearing light in form (a teen romance which imprints on the codes of the comics from which it is inspired), it nevertheless does not fail to tackle very deep subjects with accuracy, such as harassment, eating disorders, coming out and self-acceptance. So many subjects developed seriously in the series.
At the casting, the public was able to discover Joe Locke (Agatha All Along) and Kit Connor (Rocketman) who form the main couple, facing William Gao (from the group Wasia Project) or Yasmin Finney (Doctor Who). But more familiar faces also make appearances throughout the series, such as Olivia Colman (Broadchurch, The Crown, The Favorite…), Thibault de Montalembert (Ten percent), Hayley Atwell (Captain America), or Jonathan Bailey (The Bridgertons Chronicle).
Currently made up of sixteen episodes (two seasons) which can be binge-watched very easily in one weekend, Heartstopper sees its third season released on Netflix on October 3, 2024.
