This bad news affects 20% of the total employees recorded in France.
The announcement came like a hammer. It was feared, it was made official. In 2025, six million French people will not see their salaries increase. This concerns dozens of professions and no exceptions will be made: 0 salary negotiation possible, the amount on the pay slip will remain the same to the nearest cent for one more year. A hard blow for the wallet, even if prices have recently tended to stabilize.
Many sectors are affected by this salary freeze, regardless of the grade and level of responsibility held. This particularly affects some of the famous “first and second line” professionals whose merits have been talked about so much and praised during the health crisis.
Among the very long list of professions concerned, we find teachers in public schools, colleges and high schools – and all the school staff of these establishments -, firefighters, police officers, gendarmes, customs officers, prison guards, nurses, caregivers and all professions in public hospitals (including management), employees of social organizations, town halls, intercommunities, departments and regions… In short, all professions in the public service, whether territorial, hospital, or state .
In 2025, no civil servant will be increased, announced Guillaume Kasbarian, the Minister of the Civil Service. The value of the civil servants’ index point will therefore remain stuck at €59.073. The grid will not move one iota. A difficult decision to accept for those mainly concerned: their salaries have not changed since the 1er July 2023, date of the last increase.
Only some 230,000 civil servants have, in the meantime, benefited from a tiny increase in their remuneration: 6 cents, on 1er November, due to the increase in the minimum wage, the latter being those paid the minimum wage by the State.
