It’s official, Google has announced the integration of three new functions powered by artificial intelligence in its Chrome browser. New features intended to simplify the lives of Internet users and which foreshadow a future full of AI.

Even if Microsoft has taken a lead in the frantic race for artificial intelligence (AI) by deploying its technology in numerous services, its great rival, Google, is doing everything to catch up. To do this, the Mountain View firm relied on its famous search engine, Chrome. Over the past few months, several technologies have been integrated into the tool to make web searches safer and more accessible. This includes better detection of malicious sites, better management of authorizations and the possibility of adding captions in real time to videos. Obviously, the American firm did not want to stop there! As announced by Parisa Tabriz, vice president of Chrome, in a communicated published on the Google blog, these are three new functions that have been integrated into the browser.

AI in Google Chrome: a function to organize tabs

In version 121 of Chrome, Google allows users to discover three new experimental functions powered by generative AI. These new features are only available in the United States and will be deployed in France and other countries in the coming days. When they are released in France, all you have to do is connect to Chrome and go to the section Settings, which is in the three-dot drop-down menu at the top right of the browser. You will then have to click on the page Experimental AI. Users will then be able to discover Tab Organizer, a tab organization system. When several tabs concerning the same subject are open, Chrome will offer to group them in a single folder. The tool will also suggest a name or emoji for the folder. A tool that can be particularly practical for those who use multiple tabs during their shopping sessions or in their travel research by comparing hotels, for example.

AI in Google Chrome: a theme generator

Another new feature integrated into version 121 of Chrome: the ability to generate themes for the browser from a text request. As on the Google Pixel 8, it will soon be possible to personalize the wallpaper of the browser’s home page using AI. Users can write queries with artistic styles, natural phenomena, colors or even moods. “Maybe you’re fascinated by the Northern Lights and want to see them in an animated style with a serene ambiance. Just select these options to see what Chrome offers you”, explained Parisa Tabriz. To access the function, you will need to go to the section Customize Chromeclick on Change themethen on Create with AI.

Finally, Google plans to integrate a third and final function: the writing assistant. However, this won’t be available until next month in the United States. This experimental novelty aims to help Internet users write text. It will then be possible to create an invitation to a party, post a review on a store or restaurant or respond to a job offer with ease. When the feature becomes available, all you need to do is right-click on a text box or field on any site on Chrome. Then you will need to select Help me to write and enter a few words for the AI to start the writing process.
