“It’s good night – now it’s over”

Calle Halfvarsson gave it one last chance.
After another fiasco in the Tour de Ski, he was brutally honest about his feelings.
– It’s good night, he says to Radiosporten.

Calle Halfvarsson’s participation in the Tour de Ski was uncertain for a long time. Before the competitions, he tested positive for Covid-19, but there was good news with only days left until the start of the tour: Calle was ready to compete. But it has not gone as he, or anyone else, has wished.

Brutal sawing

Halfvarsson has had a hard time delivering throughout the tour, and the sprint in Davos on Wednesday was lead heavy. Halfvarsson was far behind straight away, and wasn’t even close to advancing from the prologue. Before the sprint he was 29th man overall, and after being eliminated as 42nd rider in qualifying, where only the top 30 advance.

Afterwards, Calle Halfvarsson was dejected, and he came up with a brutal sawing of his own performance.

– It is as it is. There is nothing to do. I have no energy at all. It’s good night, he says.

Can break

However, Halfvarsson believes that the conditions are not right for him, and that he finds it difficult to perform in any way.

– It’s fucking sad. I tried, but it doesn’t work. There was a small chance it would work, but I gave it a try. But now it’s probably over, says Halfvarsson.

The star is open that he is not particularly keen on continuing to compete during this year’s Tour de Ski.

– I have to go home and train and come back stronger. I think I’ll let this go now. I haven’t made a decision, but I’m leaning towards it, he says, and continues:

– I have felt before every start that it will not be good. But somewhere you live on the hope that it will work. But the world’s worst skiers are there, it would be strange if I went any further. I can barely stand up when I cross the finish line.
