The host of the event, Geoff Keighley, confirmed this news on Twitter. The Mortal Kombat series has had a huge presence at Keighley’s events over the years.

Mortal Kombat 1 will be the sequel to MK11

Mortal Kombat 1 is actually a sequel to Mortal Kombat 11. Mortal Kombat 1, a reboot created by Fire God Liu Kang, the new timeline takes the story of the series back to the beginning. It remains to be seen how fans will eventually respond to this reset of the Mortal Kombat timeline. However, they will have fresh information about the game at the Gamescom Opening Night Live event on August 22.

This was confirmed by Gamescom Opening Night Live host Geoff Keighley. Keighley announced that Mortal Kombat 1 will receive a new trailer at the event, and game director Ed Boon will personally come and present it. Although Mortal Kombat 1’s release date is September 19, fans of the series have a lot to get excited about this month as well. Those who pre-order will be able to try the game early

Anyone who pre-orders can try the pre-order beta of Mortal Kombat 1, the game, on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X between August 18-21. When the Mortal Kombat 1 beta releases, fans will be able to play online as Liu Kang, Kenshi, Kitana, Johnny Cage, Li Mei, and Sub-Zero.

Additionally, Kameo Fighters is a new concept for Mortal Kombat 1, allowing players to summon other characters for help in battle. While some fans have expressed concerns about the Kameo Fighters feature, they can experience the feature for themselves if they choose to play the pre-order beta this weekend.
