“It’s for dad’s sake”

The loss of Börje Salming is still great.
Now daughter Bianca Salming announces a completely new decision – for dad’s sake.
– We started this project together, me and dad, three years ago, she says at a press conference.

It has been almost nine months since the hockey legend Börje Salming passed away from ALS. Sweden lost one of its greatest sporting heroes of all time and Bianca Salming lost his father.

Bianca’s decision

Now the daughter announces that a final project with her late father is nearing completion. This autumn, the documentary series “Salminggenen” will be broadcast on SVT with Bianca and Börje Salming in focus.

For Bianca Salming, it is a tough and emotional decision to complete the recordings despite everything that has happened recently. But it is also extremely important for her to finish what she and her father started.
– We started this project together, me and dad, three years ago. Then the job title was “Dad, how do I become the best in the world?”. So that was kind of what the common thread would be. That you would be allowed to follow my career. Dad would help me on the road while I get to cave and learn about dad’s career, she tells the news agency TT at a press conference.
– Since then, so much has happened along the way. There was so much material filmed since before so I felt like I want to finish this. For me and dad’s sake.

Börje’s passing

“The Salming gene” will be shown in three parts on SVT starting November 23. Almost exactly one year after Börje Salming’s tragic death.
– We had already recorded so much before we knew it, before dad got his (ALS) diagnosis. I felt like I wanted to keep doing this as a tribute, it felt nice to do it for Dad. Of course, it has been special and perhaps the hardest thing ever for me to continue. I hope I can show an honest side, says Bianca Salming in a press release from SVT.

The documentary will contain a lot of private material from family life. And also the last long television interview with Börje Salming that was done in 2021.
– To be completely honest, I can hardly check the material myself yet, it is being cut. It feels scary and special to show it to others. But I see the father I’ve known all my life, that warms me the most. I hope it’s something I’ll be proud of later, says Bianca.
