The Swedish krona has reached a new low against the euro, which can make the budget even tighter for holiday-hungry Swedes. Travel expert Lottie Knutson believes that the pandemic and the economic situation mean that more people will look for donut places in Sweden.
– New destinations have popped up, which are just waiting to be visited, she says.
Analysts predict that the euro will soon cost SEK 12, which could make trips abroad even more expensive. According to Lottie Knutson, the krone exchange rate affects Swedes’ travel behaviour.
– It not only affects how much we travel, and whether we can afford to go abroad. It also affects how far away we travel.
Swedes have already started traveling more within the EU, including to Poland and the Baltics, while trips to the USA and Singapore, which are very dollar-controlled, are decreasing, according to Lottie Knutson.
– You can also see that the weak krona affects tourists who travel to Sweden, there is an absolute rush. There is a sale on luxury places, mansions and fine hotels. Skåne right up to the Stockholm region, is now filled with Danes.
The tip: Look north
For those who want to have a limited budget, and have not had time to plan their holiday, recommend Lottie Knutson to search for some more undiscovered gems in Sweden.
– Look inland, for example Hälsingland and Värmland, but also far up. We have a coast all the way to the Gulf of Bothnia with fantastic sandy beaches, I would also look north to get more budget for the money.
You can also find bargains abroad, Lottie Knutson mentions Turkey as an example.
– There are also bargains to be had on small Greek islands right now, because it has been so hot here at home, then the last minute prices also drop.
But Lottie Knutson believes that domestic travel, which increased during the pandemic, is here to stay as many rediscovered the country.
– So much has happened in Sweden in ten years. There are fantastic hostels, fancy mansions and castles. New destinations have popped up, just waiting to be visited.
