It’s been several months since Samsung Galaxy smartphones suddenly displayed a large green line on their screen. The manufacturer has decided to extend its free repair program, but not for everyone…

For several months now, some Samsung smartphone owners have had the misfortune of seeing a green line appear on their screen. Complaints and reports regarding this issue span Samsung’s entire Galaxy lineup, from affordable A-series devices to high-end foldable phones like the Galaxy Z Flip.

Faced with this problem, Samsung launched a free, but limited-time, repair program in April 2024 for the Samsung Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S22 series. But given the scale of the problem, the Korean manufacturer decided to extend the operation until December 31, 2024, on other models this time. There are some limitations, however, as it is only valid for users residing in India only. Hoping that the program will be extended to Europe soon…

Green line bug: free repair but under conditions

The manufacturer has never provided details on the precise causes of this bug. Some thought it was related to a software update, but the problem continues to occur even without one. The most popular theory is that of a hardware failure in the OLED display panels, in particular a false contact at the screen connector. Especially since other manufacturers, like OnePlus and Xiaomi, are experiencing similar problems, which has pushed them to implement similar programs.

Owners of Galaxy S21, S21 Plus, S21 Ultra, S21 FE and S22 Ultra living in India will therefore be able to benefit from a free replacement screen until December 31, 2024. Note that the most recent models do not seem to have been affected by the problem. However, there are a few conditions to be met: the device must not show any physical damage or damage due to contact with liquid, and you must have the original proof of purchase. Please note, although replacement of parts does not incur any costs, labor costs for the repair will be the responsibility of the customer.
