Pasi Möhänen,
Anna Karismo
Hello,
In recent weeks, Britain has been torn apart by such a severe economic crisis that words are not enough to describe it.
The Prime Minister, who resigned on Thursday, has not spared his words By Liz Truss even in his own Tory party. Congressman Robert Halford described (you switch to another service)that Truss and his partners have made the Conservatives look like “libertarian jihadists” who have treated the people like “lab rats”.
Yougov measurement facility by (you switch to another service) Truss was the most unpopular British Prime Minister ever. It was therefore clear for some time that Truss’s days as Prime Minister were numbered. He became Britain’s shortest-serving prime minister of all time.
THE DAILY STAR EVENING PAPER did the last few days live monitoring (you switch to another service), in which it was observed whether a batch of lettuce would last longer than Truss’s prime ministerial term without spoiling. The salad bowl won.
The Prime Minister’s mistake was – according to his own words “brave” – the mini-budget, which was supposed to turbo-boost Britain into economic growth. The market’s verdict on tax relief plans that inflated the national debt was blunt. The value of the pound plummeted and interest rates on loans skyrocketed.
The British people found themselves in a situation where all economic planning threatened to collapse. In the wake of the mini-budget, for example, mortgage interest rates soared so high that hundreds of thousands of households were on the verge of payment difficulties.
Fair didn’t like Truss (switch to another service). There may be a time for tax cuts, but the complete collapse of Truss’s ideas showed that, at least in Britain, that time was not now – in the midst of an inflationary crisis, after a pandemic that inflated the national debt.
MOOD IN BRITAIN is far from stable even after the resignation of the prime minister, because the trust of the people and the market in the entire conservative party is being tested.
Many in Britain vote for the Conservatives because it is perceived as a more stable alternative than the country’s second main party, the Labor Party, in an economic sense. In recent years, the conservatives have brought both Brexit and Boris Johnson and Truss’s volatile seasons
If new elections are held now, according to studies, the conservative party would suffer a crushing defeat. The party’s only consolation is time, as it can avoid early elections thanks to its strong majority. The deadline for the next general election in Britain is only January 2025.
Have a nice weekend,
Pass
Next, a colleague Anna Karismo tells what else Europe is talking about. ⬇️
FACT: The Baltic countries receive relatively the most money from the EU treasury
Finns were net payers of the EU budget again last year, according to the Commission’s latest figures. The Germans, Danes, Swedes and Dutch pour more money into the common coffers than us. Contrary to what is often thought in Finland, for example Italy also pays more money to the EU budget than it receives.
Membership fees collected from member countries are the Union’s largest source of income. They are determined on the basis of the member countries’ gross national income, value added tax collections, and agricultural duties and import fees collected by the Union.
The greater part From subsidies received by Finland (you switch to another service) comes to agriculture.
