He is one of Swedish skiing’s great heroes.
But what you didn’t know is that Torgny Mogren has a favorite team – in hockey.
– It has been hanging for all these years, reveals the 59-year-old in his own words.
When ranking Sweden’s top men’s skiers of all time, the two names given are usually Gunde Swan and Thomas Wassberg. Two true icons in cross-country skiing, but there is also a real skiing hero who is often forgotten.
The icon Mogren
We are of course talking about Torgny Mogren which must be considered one of the biggest in Swedish skiing with its impressive 1 Olympic gold and 4 World Cup golds. In total, the Swede has won a total of 10 major championship medals for Sweden.

He broke through as a 20-year-old and had his big international breakthrough with three consecutive relay golds in WC 87, Olympics 88 and WC 98. Then came the two great individual performances at WC 91 in Val di Fiemme and WC 93 in Falun where Mogren won two straight WC gold in the classic five-mile.

Favorite team
In 1993, Torgny Mogren was also awarded the prestigious Bragdguldet after writing blue and yellow sports history with the WC gold on Swedish soil. But alongside his fantastic efforts on the ski slopes, the golden hero has a burning interest in a completely different sport – namely hockey.

Born and raised in Hällefors, Örebro county, the 59-year-old reveals that his favorite team is not from Örebro, but from Karlstad instead. Mogren admits that his heart beats for the classic hockey team Färjestads BK.
– It’s been since I was little. It was the team that was closest geographically when I was growing up. It has been hanging around all these years, he tells Aftonbladet.
