It is the conflict that shakes the Swedish national team.
A rift has arisen between Jon Dahl Tomasson and Hugo Larsson.
Now former national team captain Lars Lagerbäck gives his honest view of the situation.
Sweden got off to a perfect start to the group stage in the Nations League with two straight victories against Azerbaijan and Estonia. But it has also flared up into a storm around Blågult due to an internal conflict between the national team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson and the midfielder Hugo Larsson.
The 20-year-old was completely poked against Azerbaijan and did not react well at all to that benching. Larsson chose to leave the national team and the Danish coach justified his decision by saying that the Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder did not fit into the style of play.

Something that Hugo Larsson does not agree with at all and openly showed his disappointment.
– I have fit into all styles of play before and I think I would have fit into this as well. Throughout my career I have been told that I am a student as a player and learn from my coaches. It’s sad, said the national team player.
Lagerbäck’s words
Many have had an opinion on this infected conflict and much has been said about the situation. Now the former national team captain steps up Lars Lagerbäck into the action and is really surprised.
– It is very unusual and perhaps above all with such a young guy who has barely played in the national team, says “Lasse” to SVT.

The experienced Lagerbäck then gets to give his view on how to handle a dispute like this in front of open curtains.
– In a Swedish national team, I don’t think it should have an impact. But life changes and society and egos may have become stronger, he tells the television channel.
– When we disagreed or players were disappointed, we resolved it. If nothing special has happened, it is bad for Jon and especially Hugo, unless he can prove that Jon said something that hurt him.
The coaching legend places great responsibility on Larsson that he must take responsibility for his actions and what he says.
– It is not dangerous to comment on a player’s quality, but Hugo has criticized how his teammates play, says Lagerbäck in his analysis.
