“It’s anxiety for me”

Alvar Myhlback has made a big breakthrough this year.
But now he opens up about the tough anxiety.
– I’m not going to lie about it, the 17-year-old admits to SVT.

The World Cup in cross-country skiing is over for this season and, as usual, the Swedish ladies have impressed greatly. Once again, it has been a tough season for the men in blue and yellow, but there is a big light at the end of the tunnel.

Myhlback’s success

His name is Alvar Myhlback and is 17 years old. The Swedish super talent has had high expectations for him for a long time but has really blossomed this ski season.

Myhlback surprised everyone when he took a very impressive third place in the Vasaloppet. He has also won double JVM gold in competition with skiers two years older.

Alvar gets anxiety

In December, he also made his historic debut at the World Cup and during the season finale in Falun, Alvar was there again. A very nice season for being 17 years old, but next season a very tough choice awaits the giant of promise.

Then he wants to specialize and is thus forced to choose between traditional cross-country skiing and long-distance running.
– It will probably be a difficult choice this spring if you are going to try to be good next season. I want to specialize, but then what it will be is not entirely certain yet, says the teenager in an interview with SVT.
– It is anxiety to think about the elections. I like to have a clear plan of how it should look, and I think it’s hard when the plan doesn’t turn out the way you intended.

“It’s the most fun”

In the last season, Myhlback has alternated between regular cross-country skiing and long-distance running, but it has been difficult.
– That’s just it, this combination is not so fun. So you love both things so much that you crave both. You have to prioritize and it’s not always as fun. But it is not optimal to combine, he admits to the television channel.

When he is put against the wall, it is actually one of them that he finds more fun.
– So, I actually think long runs are the most fun. I won’t lie about it. At the same time, I have a big dream of going very fast traditionally too, says Alvar in the interview, but he is also attracted by going to the WC and Olympics.
– It is a dream and a goal to go there. I won’t look away from it either. Like I said, it’s really just anxiety to keep thinking about it.
