The explosion in an apartment building in Farsta Strand in southern Stockholm on Tuesday evening caused extensive damage to several floors.
– It is a miracle that no one was injured, says police spokesperson Daniel Wikdahl.
The explosion occurred on the fourth floor, which is the top of the building, according to the emergency services.
– There is a risk of collapse in the stairwell and parts of the facade have also collapsed, said Oscar Davila, management operator at the rescue service, on Tuesday evening.
Due to the risk of collapse, the residents of the stairwell were evacuated.
Police spokesperson Daniel Wikdahl says the explosion caused extensive devastation.
– What has exploded exploded in the stairwell and the pressure wave continued through the house and through the apartments and into the other stairwells. It is a miracle that no one has been injured, he says.
About ten people from different stairwells have been taken to hospital for a check-up, but no obvious injuries have been reported.
Early on Wednesday morning, the police did not want to say whether any suspect in the crime had been detained.
The detonation in Farsta strand was the third within a day in the Stockholm area. During the night to Tuesday, an explosion occurred in Fagersjö near Farsta and another on Lidingö. In total, seven people were slightly injured.
Daniel Wikdahl says that the police are investigating whether the events are connected in any way.
– We naturally look at events that have occurred recently and also at other events of a similar nature and ongoing conflicts and other criminality.
