A shock announcement has shaken Norwegian sports.
Now the nation can be ported completely from all major major championships.
– It is a serious situation, says cross country manager Espen Bjervig.
A year ago, the Norwegian Sports Confederation and Antidoping Norway suspected that Norwegian youth were doping. But according to Norwegian law, athletes between the ages of 15 and 18 may not be tested for doping without their guardian’s permission.
“Serious situation”
It is a law that has existed since 2019 and which can now have enormous consequences for sports in Norway. It is NRK that reports that Antidoping Norway does not meet the requirements and thus does not meet the international doping rules.
This can lead to harsh penalties such as Norway not being allowed to organize championships on Norwegian soil in the first place. It can also lead to Norway not being allowed to compete in international championships such as the Olympics, WC and EC.
– This is a serious situation that must be resolved, says head of cross country Espen Bjervig.
Now have to find a solution
NRK further writes that it is now up to the Norwegian authorities, the sports confederation and Antidoping Norway to find a solution so as not to risk being ported.
– I have full confidence and faith that it will work out and that we will avoid a situation that affects Norwegian athletes and Norwegian organizers, says Espen Bjervig.
