When the Israeli lawyer and politician Itamar Ben-Gvir got a seat in Benjamin Netanyahu’s government last year, it was described as Israel’s long-time prime minister now making a deal with the devil.
The reason is Ben-Gvir’s ultra-nationalist views. At 16, he joined an anti-Arab party that advocated Jewish supremacy. He was guarded by Israel’s security services and was considered so extreme that he was not allowed to serve in the military.
