Italy the value of government bonds held by retail investors

(Finance) – The stock continues to rise value of Italian government bonds held by retail investors: in May 2024 it stood at 363.176 billion of euros, a record value and higher than the 353.255 of April, as well as the sixth consecutive monthly increase. This is stated in the report “Public finance, requirement and debt” of the Bank of Italy, which also showed that in June the debt of public administrations marked a new historical maximum of 2,948.512 billion euros.

There share of the Italian debt held by the other residents (mainly households and non-financial firms) stood at 14.3% in May (from 14.1% in the previous month).

Always considering the month of May, the value of the portfolio held by foreign investors rose to 706.942 billion euros, from 699.936 billion in April. This is the fifth consecutive monthly increase and a new high since October 2021.

There share of the debt held by the non-residents stood at 28.9% in May (from 28.8% the previous month).
