Italy ready for European Championship after drama

The match, played in Germany’s Leverkusen as a result of the war, was low-key but intense. “Gli azzuri” came closest to a lead goal, mainly through the lively Federico Chiesa, but it came to nothing.

In the second half, it was instead Ukraine who took over the match picture. Mykhailo Mudryk came closest, whose finish was saved by goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The match ended 0–0 and this means that Italy will continue to have a chance to defend the gold from 2021. Ukraine will qualify via playoff.

In the other Monday matches, the Czech Republic and Slovenia also booked their tickets to Germany. The former beat Moldova 3–0. Slovenia defeated Kazakhstan 2–1.
