Italy, industry turnover slightly up in June

(Finance) – Istat has estimated for the month of June 2023 that the industry turnovernet of seasonal factors, both increased by 0.4% in economic terms, resulting from growth on the domestic market (+1.8%) and a decline on the foreign market (-2.2%). In the second quarter the overall index decreased by 0.6% compared to the previous quarter (-0.4% on the domestic market and -0.8% on the foreign market).

With reference to the main industrial groupings, in June the seasonally adjusted turnover indices show a cyclical increase for the intermediate goods (+0.6%) and for i capital goods (+2.1%), while there was a marked decline in energy (-4.1%). Consumer goods recorded zero cyclical change.

Corrected for calendar effects, the total turnover grows in trend terms by 1.3%, synthesis of an increase of 3.2% on the domestic market and a decrease of 2.3% on the foreign market. There were 21 working days as in June 2022.

As regards the indices corrected for calendar effects referring to the main groupings of industries, marked trend increases are recorded for the consumer goods (+7.3%) and for i capital goods (+17.1%), while intermediate goods (-10.6%) and energy (-12.3%) are down.

With reference to manufacturing sectorthe sectors showing the most significant trend increases are means of transport (+36.1%) and pharmaceuticals (+14.2%), while the greatest declines are found in chemicals (-19.5%) and in the wood, paper and printing industry (-12.8%).

In June, the seasonally adjusted index is estimated at volume, relating to the manufacturing sector, increases of 0.5% in economic terms. In the second quarter of 2023 the index remains unchanged compared to the previous three months. Corrected for calendar effects, in June the turnover of the manufacturing sector increased in trend terms by 1.8% in both volume and value.
