Italy, industrial turnover began to decline again in November

(Finance) – Istat has estimated that a November 2023 the industry turnover, net of seasonal factors, decreased by 1.0%, recording a negative dynamic on both markets (-0.1% on the domestic market and -2.7% on the foreign market). In the September-November quarter the overall index grew by 0.4% compared to the previous quarter (-0.1% on the domestic market and +1.4% on the foreign market).

With reference to main groupings of industriesin November the seasonally adjusted turnover indices show a cyclical increase only for consumer goods (+0.2%), while a decline is recorded for intermediate goods (-1.0%), for capital goods (-1 .6%) and for energy (-3.0%).

Corrected for calendar effects the total turnover declines trend terms of 3.4%, recording declines of the same intensity also on the domestic and foreign markets. There were 21 working days as in November 2022.

As regards the indices corrected for calendar effects referring to the main groupings of industries, trend increases were recorded for capital goods (+2.7%) and for consumer goods (+0.1%), while they resulted in decreases in intermediate goods (-10.1%) and energy (-9.1%).

With reference to manufacturing sectorthe sector showing the greatest increase is that of machinery and equipment (+6.8%), while the most marked declines are found in the chemical sector (-12.7%) and in the wood and paper industries and the press (-12.0%).

In November, Istat estimates that the seasonally adjusted index in volume, relating to the manufacturing sector, decreased by 0.5% in economic terms. In the September-November 2023 quarter the index increased by 0.1% compared to the previous quarter. Corrected for calendar effects, in November the volume of turnover in the manufacturing sector decreased in trend terms by 2.2% (-3.2% in value).
