Denaro is alleged to be the boss of the Sicilian Cosa Nostra group.
The police have been looking for the mafia boss since 1993.
Denaro has been sentenced in absentia to life in prison by prosecutors Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino of murders. Denaro is also suspected of being behind several bombings in the 1990s.
