Italy celebrates winning the Davis Cup for the second time

Italy beat the Netherlands in the final of the tennis national team tournament. Jannik Sinner said that the victory means a lot to him.

The Italian national tennis team is celebrating the victory of the national team tournament Davis Cup for the second year in a row. On Sunday, Italy defeated the Netherlands 2–0 in the final match of the final tournament played in Malaga, Spain.

The team won when Matteo Berrettini won at first singles Botic van de Zandschulpin by 6–4, 6–2. The victory celebration started when the country’s current number one star Jannik Sinner knocked down in his own singles game Tallon’s Griekspoor 7–6 (7–2), 6–2.

In addition, the winning team included Lorenzo Musetti, Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori. Served as team captain Filippo Volandri.

Italy progressed from the semi-finals of the final tournament to the final by beating Australia and the Netherlands over Germany. In addition to the two most recent victories, the Davis Cup victory has gone to Italy in 1976.

– I am very proud of the whole team. There is a lot of work behind this, and we are very happy to hold the trophy again, Jannik Sinner commented after the victory.

In Sinner’s opinion, the pressures are different when playing in the national team.

– If this wasn’t important, I wouldn’t be here. It means a lot to me, Sinner said about the importance of the Davis Cup to him.

In addition to the Davis Cup, Sinner, who is at the top of the world rankings, won the Australian Open and the US Open tennis tournaments, the ATP final tournament and three Masters-level competitions this year.

Sinner has, however, been overshadowed by the doping scandal. Klostebol, classified as a prohibited substance, was found in the doping samples he gave in March. Sinner survived without a suspension, as the substance was considered to have entered his system unintentionally.
