The world tour of our correspondents immerses us today in the world of society and people of the third age. How are our old people around the world treated? The example of Italy where the country is lagging behind, for lack of reception facilities for the elderly. In Canada, it is in Quebec, where we find the highest proportion of elderly people living in care centres. In Japan, 30% of the population is aged 65 and over. Life expectancy is the highest there and the elderly population is in better health. The aging of the population has been a public priority for some twenty years. In India, the sector is still very nascent, the traditional family structure pushes many children to live under the same roof as their parents and grandparents. But retirement homes are starting to grow. World tour of correspondents by Anne Trecat, Pascale Guéricolas, Frédéric Charles and Côme Bastin.
