Italy: a restrictive law complicates the reception of migrants

In Italy, the government’s migration policy continues to be singled out. On January 3, a decree by Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi changed the rules that apply to NGOs carrying out rescues in the Mediterranean. After rescuing a migrant boat in difficulty, they must now immediately go to the port assigned by the authorities and no longer to the nearest port. How have these cities learned to manage the emergency?

Ravenna, in Emilia-Romagna, La Spezia, in Liguria, or Ancona in the Marches, have become new ports of arrival for migrants, unleashing controversy over the merits of this decision.
