(Finance) – Over 20,000 companies used Amazon’s online store in 2021 creating, to date, a total of approx 60 thousand jobs in Italy. In addition, last year, more than half of the SMEs selling on Amazon exported their products and recorded overseas sales of around 800 million euros, around 25% more than the previous year: of these, more than 60 million euros were registered outside the European Union. These – as the company reports in a note – i numbers of Amazon’s contribution to the Italian economy in line with the company’s goal announced last May to help bring exports of these companies to 1.2 billion euros per year by 2025.
According to the report, in 2021 more than 200 Italian SMEs that sell on Amazon exceeded one million euros in sales for the first time and about 5 thousand exceeded 100 thousand euros in sales. Overall, the more than 20 thousand entrepreneurial realities have sold over 200 products per minute on the ecommerce site.
The five most successful product categories abroad they have been home and cooking, beauty, sport and leisure, industry and science, and health and personal care.
Analyzing the foreign sales of SMEs in the individual regionsthe Lombardy is in first place with a value of over 125 million euros, followed in second place by the Campania with over 120 million euros and the third Lazio with over 70 million euros. Follows the Veneto with over 70 million euros while the Piedmont closes the top 5 with a value of over 50 million euros. Other regions with a high level of exports include Tuscany (over 50 million euros), Puglia (over 50 million), Emilia Romagna (over 40 million) e Sicily (over 25 million). The SMEs that sell on Amazon are based in all 20 Italian regions and in three regions there are over 2,000 sales partners: in Lombardy (over 3,250), Campania (over 2,750) and Lazio (over 2,000). There top five of the regions with the greatest presence of SMEs it also includes Puglia (over 1,700) and Veneto (over 1,500). The presence of SMEs is also significant in Emilia-Romagna with over 1,500, in Piedmont and Sicily with over 1,250, in Tuscany with about 1,250 and in Abruzzo with over 500 SMEs.
