Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni seeks compensation of one hundred thousand euros for porn videos made with deepfake technology, says the British broadcasting company BBC.

Deepfake means that the face or body of another person – usually a well-known person in the public domain – has been digitally added to another person’s body.

Meloni is scheduled to testify in court at the beginning of June.

The subject of the investigation is a 40-year-old man and his 73-year-old father, who are believed to have produced the videos. The men are accused of defamation.

The defendants were caught after police tracked down cellphones used to upload deepfake videos online to a US porn site, where they racked up millions of views.

The oldest of the videos come from a time when Meloni was not prime minister yet.

According to Meloni’s legal team, the prime minister plans to donate a possible compensation amount of one hundred thousand euros to a fund for women who have been victims of sexual violence.

The victims of the widespread deepfake videos have told about the trauma caused by the acts.
