“Italia a 1 Giga” plan, Open Fiber: the webinars have started in Lombardy

(Finance) – The first presentation webinar of the digitization project “Italia a 1 Giga”, a plan financed with funds from the PNRR to wire areas not covered by a network capable of providing download connection speeds equal to or greater than at least 300 Mbit/s. They were 21 are the first municipalities involved in the initiative which fall within the 1,132 Lombard municipalities affected by

project: Open Fiber was awarded a total of 8 lots out of 15 lots, put up for tender by Infratel Italyfor a total of 3,881 Municipalities in 9 Regions for the total coverage of 3.9 million house numbers by 2026.

The aim of the initiative – explains Open Fiber in a note – is to create an opportunity for information and discussion with the Municipalities affected by the plan during which the aims of the “Italia a 1 Giga” plan and the main regulatory simplifications regarding the installation of ultra-broadband infrastructures. A specific focus, during the event, was dedicated to the operating methods with which the interventions on the territory will be carried out and the regulatory framework in which these works will be carried out.

THE 21 Lombard municipalities invited to participate in the webinar were: Bollate, Buccinasco, Cassina de Pecchi, Cernusco sul Naviglio, Cinisello Balsamo, Cormano, Cornaredo, Milan, Opera, Peschiera Borromeo, Rho, San Donato Milanese, Segrate, Sesto San Giovanni, Settimo Milanese and Trezzano on the Naviglio in the province of Milan, Monza in the province of Monza and Brianza, Seriate in the province of Bergamo, Sondrio in the province of Sondrio, Busto Arsizio and Induno Olona in the province of Varese. They will be approx 10,800 total house numbers connected to the ultra-broadband network in these municipalities.

The “Italia a 1 Giga” plan is a further step in the Open Fiber business plan aimed at providing the country with a latest generation fiber optic infrastructure with a connection speed starting from 1 Gigabit per second and making the innovative digital services already available on the ultra-fast network available to all citizens and businesses.

Lombardy region immediately made itself available to actively collaborate in the realization of this project by facilitating the authorization process and will invest additional 209 million from the PNRR resources plus i 303 million of the 2014-2020 Community Planning, with reference only to market failure areas, being completed by 2024.
