It will be a white Christmas SMHI warns of

– It is expected to cause major disruptions in traffic, among other things due to high traffic load and due to the snow, says Anna Karin Norberg at SMHI.

Intense snowfall

At Hallandsåsen and to the north, the precipitation turns into an intense snowfall and the precipitation area moves to the northeast and reaches the Stockholm area at 5-6 pm on Thursday.

“It will be heavy and abundant snowfall and windy,” says Erik Höjgård-Olsen, meteorologist at SMHI.

In Skåne and Halland, strong winds and storm surges are expected during Thursday evening, which can lead to blown down trees and limited access on roads.

SMHI also warns of rising water levels during the day, which could lead to extensive flooding along the coastal stretch between Malmö and Varberg.

From 11 o’clock on Thursday morning, warnings are out for heavy snowfall mainly in western Svealand, Värmland and Örebro, and it will also blow up in connection with the low pressure in especially Götaland from the middle of the day.

“Tonight strong storms are expected in southwestern Scania and it will last for just under 24 hours before it calms down,” says Erik Höjgård-Olsen.

Is it true that it always snowed on Christmas Eve in the past?

White Christmas Eve

During Friday, Götaland is treated to a combination warning with both wind and snowfall, but it also looks like it will calm down towards the evening.

— It still looks as if it will be a white Christmas in almost the entire country. Maybe Scania and coastal Halland and Blekinge won’t be so white, it depends on how wet it gets. But the inner part of Skåne can probably enjoy a fairly white Christmas Eve, says Erik Höjgård-Olsen.
