Ali Selaceke, Vice President and Head of the Environmental Protection Agency, spoke to the Iranian official agency IRNA.
Selaceke said that an Asian cheetah protected in the breeding program gave birth to 3 healthy puppies at the Turan National Park Asian Cheetah Breeding Center in Iran’s Simnan province.
Stating that the Environmental Protection Agency veterinary teams performed a cesarean section in the field and that an Asian cheetah gave birth for the first time in the breeding program, Selaceke said, “We can increase the cheetah population in captivity and later in semi-captivity by protecting these offspring, which is of great help in the protection of such endangered genes.” said.
IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT LESS THAN 20 ASIAN CHEESE WERE OBSERVED YESTERDAY
The population of the Asian species of cheetahs, the world’s fastest land animal, which can reach speeds of 120 kilometers per hour, has decreased dramatically.
Hasan Akbari, Vice President of Iran Natural Environment and Biodiversity Agency, said in a statement yesterday that less than 20 Asian cheetahs were observed in Simnan, Kirman, Yazd, Rezevi Khorasan, North Khorasan and South Khorasan provinces.
Iran, the last country where Asian cheetahs live in the wild, launched a United Nations-sponsored conservation and breeding program for the endangered species in 2001. (AA)
