Charlie Hunnam said in an interview that he was shortlisted for the role of Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars and why he thinks it ended up falling through.
Charlie Hunnam (Rebel Moon, Sons of Anarchy) revealed in an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight in December 2023 that he almost landed the role of Anakin Skywalker – but an awkward meeting, in his opinion, ruined his chance at the Star Wars villain .

In the interview, Charlie Hunnam confirmed the rumor that he had auditioned for the role of Star Wars character Anakin Skywalker aka Darth Vader.
He got so far in the selection process that he was invited to a meeting with star director George Lucas.
“I got to the point where I met George Lucas, you know? […] I don’t think he meets many actors,” the actor said.
He went on to say that there weren’t many candidates left in the running for the role at the time: “I think there were maybe two or three actors they were considering. I don’t remember much of it.”

However, he was quite nervous during the interview, which made the meeting with George Lucas so awkward that Hunnam quickly realized that he would no longer get the role:
“And I just remember it was a very awkward meeting and I walked out and thought, ‘Well, I’m definitely not going to get the part.’ And I was right,” said the actor with humor. “Sometimes it’s about the vibes.”
