Dietitian Pakize Gizem Akgül stated that eating habits late in the evening may have an impact on the ranking, while kebab chef Yaşar Aydın said that Adana Kebap will not make you obese, and pastry foods will trigger obesity.
As part of the World Obesity Day, the General Secretary of the 11th National Obesity Congress Prof. Dr. Fırat Bayraktar pointed out that Turkey, which did not rank in the top 10 in the 2000s, is now the first in Europe, and stated that Adana is the place with the highest number of obese individuals in our country.
BALANCED NUTRITION IS Ignored
Acıbadem Adana Hospital Nutrition and Diet Specialist Pakize Gizem Akgül stated that the Turkey Diabetes, Hypertension, Obesity and Endocrinological Diseases Prevalence Study (TURDEP) was conducted in 15 provinces and Adana ranks first among these provinces. one of their problems. Unfortunately, the world is getting fatter. Research also shows it’s an increasingly common problem. One of the biggest factors leading to obesity is getting away from a healthy and balanced diet and inactivity. If the caloric value we take in is more than the energy we burn through movement, it causes us to gain weight. The first thing we need to do to maintain weight is to eat a balanced diet and exercise. However, we can ignore the need for a balanced diet.
“WE HAVE NIGHT EATING CULTURE”
Stating that Adana has a rich cuisine, Akgül then said:
“We live in a lucky land. Our cuisine, especially kebabs, is very rich, there are different tastes and different food options. However, these foods are very high in saturated fat and calories. All we have to do is eat as much as we need. We have to be very careful with the amount of food we eat. Too much of it always leads to our body fat. So we should eat as much as we need. Night eating culture is also common in our region. Offal such as kokoreç, şırdan, liver can be consumed late in the evening or at night. However, these foods are very high in saturated fat and calories. Therefore, more calories are taken than needed. Moreover, when the rate of movement is low, we cannot burn calories. When we consider all these factors together, the result is that we gain more weight, and each excess weight invites many health problems, from the heart to the kidneys.”
“ADANIANS LOVE BREAKFAST”
Yaşar Aydın, who has been making kebabs in the city for many years, said that Adana Kebab will not make you gain weight. Aydın said, “You can’t be obese from Adana Kebab. However, it is not possible to become obese from junk food such as pasta, rice, hamburger and pizza. You can’t be obese by eating Adana Kebab as much as you want. Our Adana people love to bite,” he said.
Emphasizing that the night-eating culture is very common in Adana and this triggers obesity, Aydın said, “Our Adana residents eat day and night. He eats liver in the morning, kebab at noon, and şırdan and kokoreç in the evening, as well as dessert. There is no idle time in Adana. Tourists always eat, too. There is real flavor here. It’s impossible not to be obese. However, if you do not want to be obese, eat a lot of kebabs.
“Glad you’re obese”
A citizen named Mustafa Yardim, who came to eat kebab, said, “We have breakfast with liver in the morning and end the day with shirdan in the evening. Our kebab is never missing. We are like nails and flesh. Fortunately, we are from Adana, fortunately we are obese. Erzurum does not have tastes like ours. We don’t have any,” he said.
