Two successful Marvel blockbusters from the directing duo Anthony and Joe Russo are being shown on TV today. Let’s start with that most successful film in the gigantic franchise. Avengers 4: Endgame grossed an incredible $2.7 billion. This is followed by Captain America 2: The Return of the First Avenger MCU film that does a lot of things differently.

Marvel blockbuster Avengers 4 on TV: Half the universe has been wiped out

With the third Avengers part, fans were left with an unbelievable cliffhanger. In Endgame, the story continues after Thanos (Josh Brolin) wiped out half the universe with the help of the six Infinity Stones. The only way to reverse the catastrophe is to go on a time travel hunt to get your hands on the stones before Thanos.

Superhero meets spy thriller in Captain America 2: The Return of the First Avenger

The second Captain America film is also about the past. Here the superhero meets the soldier he trained, James “Bucky” Barnes (Sebastian Stan), who apparently died in the first part. Now he returns hostile, without memory and better trained than ever before.

Compared to the mostly epically charged MCU films, things are surprisingly quiet in Captain America 2. The superhero film is peppered with narrative motifs from the American spy and agent films of the 70s.

11th and 5th place of the best MCU films

This was obviously well received by the fans. Because in our big Moviepilot list of the best and worst MCU films it ends up on one respectable place 11 out of 32. It also says that the elements of the political thriller are skilfully underpinned with exuberant special effects and hand-made hand-to-hand combat.

Avengers 4: Endgame lands on one of the lists excellent 5th place. The film brings the great Infinity saga to its crowning conclusion after 22 films. It goes on to say:

Above all, fans get emotional with you Best of fireworks rewarded, which once again offers everything that characterizes Kevin Feige’s comic film universe in an epic 3 hours.

Even though the film feels like a grand finale, the Avengers are far from over. Avengers 5: Doomsday is scheduled to continue in April 2026, when Robert Downey Jr. will also return to the MCU, this time as Doctor Doom.
