According to the interesting event that quickly spread on social media, local people in the San Francisco Bay Area encounter anchovies in unexpected places. These points reportedly include sidewalks, roads, roofs, and bus stops. The interesting anchovy rain has already managed to make a worldwide impact.

According to the news in Live Science, reports of fish precipitation have been recorded in the Bay Area, including San Francisco’s Outer Richmond and Castro neighborhoods. One of the locals told SF Gate newspaper that he “nearly hit a fish while he was waiting for the bus”.

The news quickly spread on social media as locals posted on Reddit. A Reddit user said that about a dozen fish rained down from the sky on the roof and back of his friends’ house. A few other users said they had similar experiences. Some likened the event to the “Sharknado” movie series.

Experts think that the fish rains are a result of the increase in the number of anchovy on the coast. Birds are blamed for the fish that rain down on the streets of the city. Due to the boom in the anchovy population, there are currently quite a lot of anchovy quite close to the shore. That’s why birds fill their mouths with fish. While flying, they sometimes drop fish.
Larry Collins, the president of the San Francisco Community Fishing Association, told SF Gate that the birds were faced with the increase in the number of anchovy. “Last week, I heard stories from people saying that the water was covered with thousands of birds and the birds were sitting on the water with anchovies in their mouths because they could no longer eat,” Collins said.
