Volcanic activity, which was intense last month, continues in Mount Etna, which is approximately 3,300 meters high on the island of Sicily. According to the statement made by the Etna Observation Station of the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the active southeastern crater of the volcano strongly ejected ash and lava yesterday evening.
CODE RED WARNING FOR AIRPLANES
INGV noted that volcanic activity on Etna was limited to the southeastern crater. Meanwhile, media reports stated that a red code warning was issued for planes passing through the region due to the ashes sprayed by the mountain, however, the flight traffic of Fontanarossa Airport in Catania was not negatively affected.
It was stated that the powerful lava flow in Etna could also be observed from surrounding cities such as Catania and Taormina. Mount Etna, which is the highest active volcano in Continental Europe, spewed ash and lava on November 13 and 26. (AA)
