It will be a good hotel summer in Sweden, predicts the industry organization Visita.
According to them, the number of guest nights is expected to increase by 3.4 percent from last year.
– It is very gratifying, especially in this economic situation, says Thomas Jakobsson, chief economist at Visita.
Things are rolling along for the Swedish hotel industry, at least over the summer. According to the organization Visita, the number of guest nights between June and August will reach almost 10.5 million, an increase of over three percent from last year.
– In this economic situation, one could have expected that households would cut back, but we have five weeks of vacation this year as well and they will be filled in, says Thomas Jakobsson, Visita’s chief economist.
Foreign tourists
Foreign visitors are increasing the most. The weak krona means that guests from abroad are currently getting a lot of Swedish currency for their money.
– This is helped by a currency effect and some other effects. So largely positive, but in the autumn it will probably be tougher.
Because although non-European guests are predicted to increase by 30 percent, they are still fewer than before the pandemic, something that worries the industry.
– It is not good that there is still a lack of long-distance foreign tourists. In that way, Sweden needs to increase its competitiveness, because the competition for foreign tourists is fierce, says Thomas Jakobsson.
