In the 2000s, the Transformers series became one of the most massive cinema franchises. From time to time, the sci-fi universe slowly went downhill financially. In 2018, the spin-off Bumblebee, the first Transformers film without Michael Bay as director, was released, but the desired success did not materialize.
Last year was with Transformers: Rise of the Beasts the seventh part as a second course correction appeared in the franchise. The blockbuster by director Steven Caple Jr. is now available as a subscription on Netflix. It has already shot to number 1 in the streamer’s film charts.

The seventh part of the series takes place in 1994, where two archaeologists Noah (Anthony Ramos) and Elena (Dominique Fishback) become involved in an ancient conflict between the Autobots and various evil Transformers types such as Predacons and Terrorcons advised. Even more dangerous is the impending arrival of the evil Unicron, who could destroy the world.

Transformers 7 fell short of expectations financially
According to Box Office Mojo, the seventh Transformers part grossed a good $436 million at the global box office with a budget of around $200 million. A solid result, nonetheless a far cry from the series’ old successes is. Overall, the sci-fi franchise has a box office gross of over $5.4 billion.
In October 2024, Transformers One, a new animated film in the series, will be released in cinemas. For Moviepilot editor Jan Felix Wuttig, it’s actually the best part so far.
