It is The Game of Thrones Original this epic French

Did you know that a French literary saga, adapted in two series, inspired Game of Thrones? She will soon return to the cinema.

Soon six years after the last episode (very decried) of Game of Thronesno other series has won the same popular fervor and the same level of critical membership. If you are missing, you can turn two adaptations of a successful French literary saga. Also note that it will soon be the subject of a series of films, by the directors of Count of Monte-Cristo.

The comparison with Clog is not exaggerated. George RR Martin, author of the cult series, himself admitted to having been largely inspired by this saga (as well as the Deux-Roses war in England) to write his story of Fantasy. On his blog, he is full of praise on these French novels, which he even describes as “The Game of Thrones Original” in the preface to the first volume.

Written between 1955 and 1977 by Maurice Druon, the continuation of novels Cursed kings Tells the battle for power for the succession of the throne of France which raged from 1314 to 1356 and led to the famous Hundred Years War. The literary saga is based on the legend of an Italian columnist, according to which the last grand master of the temple would have launched a curse against his accusers, notably the King of France Philippe IV Le Bel, in which he condemns them to Death and curse “until the thirteenth generation”.

Publishing and rich in twists and turns, this collection of 7 books which describes political conspiracies and betrayals of all kinds was entitled to two adaptations in series: the oldest, broadcast in 1977, features an unforgettable piat in one of the Main roles, the conspirator Robert d’Artois. Available on the INA via a subscription to Prime Video, this series in seven episodes is certainly a little dated in terms of staging for the 2025 spectator, but remains a real delight for all lovers of courses.

A second version by Josée Dayan was released in 2005, with much better known faces: Jeanne Moreau, Philippe Torreton, Gérard Depardieu and his children, Julie and Guillaume Depardieu, Jeanne Balibar, Julie Gayet, Line Renaud, Tchéky Karyo, Eric Ruf, Claude Rich or Hélène Vincent all give himself the reply. Less acclaimed than that released 33 years earlier, it is not available in streaming.

Fortunately, there will soon be a third version by the team at work behind the Count of Monte-Cristo. Dimitri Rassam and the directors Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patellière will offer a new adaptation of this historic fresco. No series in sight, but seven films to adapt the seven novels. For the time being, the cast is not known, because the shooting must start in 2026.
