Wolfgang Petersen’s film adaptation of The boat is one of the greatest cult classics in German cinema history. The 1981 film is based on the novel of the same name by Lothar-Günther Buchheim, which told a fictional story about a submarine crew in World War II. In 2018 the material became relaunched as a series – and that’s exactly what’s now in the Netflix charts.
