THE KNIFE IS NOT CHANGED
Assoc. Dr. Aylin Kılıç made important statements about refractive surgery used to get rid of glasses or contact lenses. Assoc. Dr. Aylin Kılıç, stating that laser treatment is an operation performed on the anterior layer of the eye, said, “We shape the front surface of the eye in microns, and this is a painless, painless procedure. Patients get rid of their glasses with a hair-like correction, and the procedure takes a very short time. We can examine refractive surgery in general under two headings. First, we call the femtosecond laser, and we can cut the eye without touching it, without touching the eye with a knife. In short, we can get a very thin layer without touching it with a knife. Secondly, we shape and thin the eye with the excimer laser, or we save certain areas from astigmatism by making more shots according to the degree of astigmatism. In this way, we save our patients from their glasses.”
NOT SUITABLE FOR EVERY EYE LASER
Noting that there should be no dry eye before the laser operation, Assoc. Dr. Aylin Kılıç said, “In the first stage of the laser operation, we separate a layer from the front of the eye with very good technology without a knife. This layer we separate is processed in about 12 seconds. After removing this, we make laser shots with an excimer laser on the lower part like a hat, shape the eye and close the layer we separated in the first stage. Not every healthy eye is ideal for laser treatment. For example, those with congenitally thin corneas and those with high hyperopia are not suitable for laser. In ideal eyes, the corneal thickness should be good, there should be a completely regular astigmatism on the front surface of the eye, our patients should be advantageous in terms of eye dryness. We do not want patients to wear contact lenses before the operation, as we care about the absence of dry eyes, we are very sensitive about this. We want a healthy eye before the procedure, a healthy and ideal eye,” he said.
DEVELOPMENTS ARE INCREASING
Assoc. Dr. Pointing out that the aim of the laser surgery is to reset the eye number, Aylin Kılıç said, “There is no eye number called zero, it is definitely 0.25 to 0.50 in the measurements. If we consider the person suitable for laser operation, it means that the eye number does not repeat in his future life, it does not carry a risk. The eye number can stay at 0.50 to 0.75 even though we are aiming for zero. We can provide patients with detailed information about their eye numbers and the operation. Advances in the laser treatment process are increasing. Laser systems, energies and methods are changing. Now more stable, more ideal visual quality is being worked on. We are also trying to reach the extreme points of the human eye. There are very good and promising developments in this regard,” he said.
