“It is my responsibility as a role model”

Peder Fredricson’s nasty accident caused injuries to his neck.
Now he is acting to improve security in the future.
– It is my responsibility as a role model, he tells Expressen.

It was during the GCT competition in Stockholm three weeks ago that the accident happened to Peder Fredricson. During a forward jump he fell off the horse, and he had to go straight to the hospital with pain in his neck.

Acting after the accident

Fortunately for Fredricson, he managed without any fracture, but his neck took a serious blow, and he also suffered ligament damage and bleeding. Today, Peder Fredricson feels better. He has removed the support collar, can move his head, but when he is back in the saddle he does not know.

And now he acts for the future. In Sweden, safety vests at competitions are a must until the age of 18. Within the world elite, however, few use it. But in the future, Fredricson will do it.

– Actually, I don’t think for myself, but I think for Bill (youngest son) and the others, that maybe it is my responsibility as a role model to have a vest so that other young riders will start to have it. When you start wearing it, it’s probably like wearing a helmet, you get used to it, he tells Expressen.

Can produce one myself

Peder Fredricson is even willing to produce and develop a vest himself, which he feels gives him everything he wants in a vest.

– I will scan the market and see what is available. If there is no good one, I will produce one myself.

Peder Fredricson further says that the accident was caused by a wrong decision by himself.

– There were a few things that caused this accident, which I could have prevented. You know, kind of like when you do an overtaking and you think, “poof, it went well but it wasn’t so smartly done”, he says.
