L’Aveyron, Gers and Tarn being the regions who arrive in the top 3 for “aging well”. Among these, it is the city of Rodez which wins the first step of the podium. “In Rodez, we want to leave no one behind, especially seniors” commented the city’s mayor Christian Teyssèdre to Le Figaro. In detail, the Aveyron prefecture arrives in 9th position out of 449 for access to health professionals. “To establish doctors in the territory, we built 5 health homes in 6 years, for an investment of 20 million euros, continues the mayor, thus we effectively arrive at plug the retirements of former doctors.” Rodez is also the city where seniors are the most active (18% are registered in a sports club). Finally, the criterion which made it possible to differentiate this city from the others is its low pollutionAbove all with fine particles. “Pollution has fallen by 18% in 10 years in the city” shares Christian Teyssèdre.
New Aquitaine and Occitanie: cities in good shape
Overall, the top of ranking is mainly occupied by towns in the southwest quarter from France : 13 of the top 20 places are cities of New Aquitaine and D‘Occitanie. This last region occupies half of the Top 10. Besides Rodez, we find in order Auch (2e), Cahors (3e), Albi (4e) and Millau (8e). It is also in these regions that seniors practice the most physical activities: between 18% to 25% of them are members of sports clubs compared to 6.5% in Paris and just over 9% in Marseille.
