President Biden wrote a letter to the Americans in which he justified his decision to leave the presidential race.

President of the United States Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he will not be a candidate in the upcoming presidential election.

He shared message service in X a letter in which he justified his decision. Below is the letter freely translated into Finnish.

“The fellow Americans,

In the last three and a half years, we have made tremendous progress as a nation.

Today, the United States has the strongest economy in the world. We’ve made historic contributions to rebuilding our country, lowering prescription drug prices for seniors, and expanding affordable health care to a record number of Americans. We have provided vital assistance to one million veterans who have been exposed to toxic substances. We have passed the first gun safety law in 30 years. We have appointed the first African-American woman to the Supreme Court. And we have passed the most significant climate legislation in the history of the world. The United States has never been better positioned to lead.

I know none of this would have been possible without you, the American people. Together, we weathered a once-in-a-century pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. We have protected and preserved our democracy. And we have revitalized and strengthened our alliances around the world.

It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country to step aside and fully focus on fulfilling my responsibilities as President for the remainder of my term.

I will speak to the nation later this week in more detail about my decision.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked hard for my re-election. I want to thank the Vice President Terrible Harris for an exceptional partnership in all this work. And I want to express my heartfelt thanks to the American people for the faith and trust you have placed in me.

I still believe the same as I always have: that there is nothing America can’t do – when we do it together. We just have to remember that we are the United States of America.”
