Irritable bowel syndrome, a disease that affects the gastrointestinal system, is one of the leading digestive system diseases that can affect millions of people. Other chronic inflammatory diseases are Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. If you have one of these diseases or are experiencing symptoms, you may need to stay away from some foods that are consumed as healthy.
ATTENTION TO FIBER FOODS
Surprising results have emerged from a new study on gut health. The study, published in Gastroenterology, revealed that people with irritable bowel syndrome react to certain foods that contain fiber.
INTENSIVE INFLAMMATION
The results showed that participants with IBD were unable to properly digest unfermented dietary beta fructan fiber. Moreover, unfermented dietary Beta fructan fibers caused inflammation, intensifying participants’ IBD symptoms.
WHICH FOODS CONTAIN THESE FIBERS?
If you have gut issues and think you may need to cut potentially problematic fiber from your diet, you should avoid Beta fructans. Foods containing beta fructans include grapefruit, bananas, dates, prunes, foods in the onion family, artichokes, Brussels sprouts, asparagus and some grains, beans and nuts.
