ADVICE FROM THE EXPERT TO THOSE WITH A HERNIATED DISC, “KEEP THE AREA WARM IN COLD WEATHER”
Op., whose opinions were included in the statement. Dr. Emre Ünal explained the effects of cold and snowy weather on waist and neck hernias. Emphasizing the importance of wearing clothes that keep the waist area warm, especially in cold weather, Ünal explained that the first thing to do in case of back pain is to “put a hot water bottle on the waist area and rest for at least 15 minutes.”
Stating that a herniated disc occurs when the cartilaginous tissues called “disc” located between the spinal bones deteriorate over time and come out of their place, Ünal mentioned that this deterioration occurs due to factors such as “advancement of age, heavy lifting, smoking and being overweight”.
Ünal noted that tissues, muscles, joints and ligaments shrink and harden in cold weather, and pointed out that in this case, mobility decreases because less blood flows to the tissues, and the tension in the muscles, joints and ligaments in the waist area causes pain.
“PAIN DUE TO DISC HERNIATED DISCUSSION IS GETTER IN COLD WEATHER”
Kiss. Dr. Emre Ünal underlined that people with a herniated disc experience more hip and leg pain than the waist and said, “Although cold weather does not contribute to the development of a herniated disc, we see in our outpatient clinics that the pain caused by a herniated disc becomes more severe in cold weather.” he said.
Giving suggestions to prevent back pain or a herniated disc, Ünal stated that it is important to “exercise regularly, pay attention to weight, stay away from sugary foods, not smoke and protect the waist area from cold.” (AA)
