LINE RENAUD. The 94-year-old singer and actress, Line Renaud, reaffirms in Paris Match her commitment to active assistance in dying.
Line Renaud has never hidden her support for active assistance in dying. In an interview with the magazine Paris Match, the 94-year-old singer, actress and former magazine leader reaffirmed her desire to be able to decide on her death, even if it means “bypassing the law”, in her own words. “All of this has to be joyful. I want to leave a soothing image. My friends want me to leave without suffering”, confides the actress, who had already signed, last August, a forum on the end of life, calling for legalizing active assistance in dying.
Line Renaud adds that she wishes to die at home, in her house in Rueil-Malmaison: “In my bed with my dog Pirate next to me… if he is still alive! I will pet him, I will ask him to come closer to me and he will come closer. I will be surrounded by all my loved ones, with whom I will talk.” And if the legislation concerning the end of life is not established, the actress explains: “I will leave here! If the suffering arrives, I will circumvent the law! It is decided: without law, I will die in resistance.”
Line Renaud does not, however, intend to “pull [s]a reverence soon”, but is not afraid to die, even if his joy of living is “intact” and “tremendous”. She concludes: “Death is the companion of life, this should be taught to the school (…) I love life and it gives it back to me.”
