Working from home and education, which settled in our lives with the pandemic, caused an increase in sedentary life. For this reason, in recent years, there has been an increase in obesity and diseases caused by obesity. It is vital to take precautions against obesity, which is considered a serious problem all over the world. People who want to live a healthy and long life should stay away from habits that cause obesity.
COUNTRY WITH MOST OBESITY IN EUROPE
According to an international study that lasted 12 years, there was a 30 percent increase in obesity in 10 years. In Turkey, there is an increase of 30 percent in women and 13 percent in men. Turkey is the country with the highest obesity rate of 32% among adults in Europe.
IT HAS STARTED TO BE SEEN IN CHILDREN
Speaking to TRT Haber, Endocrinology and Metabolism Diseases Specialist Prof. Dr. Inan Anaforoğlu stated that obesity decreased to young ages and said, “While it was considered a disease of advanced age in the past, we unfortunately started to see obesity in childhood at a very early age. And we are one of the countries where obesity has increased the fastest in the world.”
CAUSES SERIOUS DISEASES
Obesity brings with it many diseases. Stating that obesity causes serious problems, Anaforoğlu said, “There are some complications that it brings, not alone. Here comes diabetes. It is predicted that 20 out of every 100 people will have diabetes in the next 10 years. It is a disease that only cosmetically disrupts the psychology of people like blood pressure and fatty liver. It is not a disease that causes serious metabolic problems,” he said.

Lifestyle changes are recommended to get rid of obesity. Regular exercise and balanced nutrition are important instead of shock diets. Emphasizing the importance of healthy nutrition, Anaforoğlu said:
“In the past, there weren’t any devices like cars or automatic devices that were so comfortable, dependent on machines for such jobs. Even we, the television remote control is something that actually restricts our movement. We travel even the closest distances by car. It is extremely important to reach healthy food.”
